Hello there and welcome to LinuxS2O
0:07
In this quick guide you will learn how to set up Flatpack on Ubuntu
0:11
Flatpack is a next generation technology for building and distribution Linux application
0:15
It basically runs the app in a sandbox environment and gives the user the complete control
0:20
over the permissions the application has. If you want to know more about the Flatpack, then check out this article at LinuxS2.com
0:29
I will give you a brief introduction to flatpack and how to use it
0:33
The link is in the description. Now let's see how to install it in Ubuntu
0:38
So most of the distribution has flatpack by default but Ubuntu does not and this is because
0:43
Ubuntu has their own similar property technology known as Snapcraft or Snap
0:49
So of course they will not provide the support by default for Flatpack
0:52
So this is Ubuntu 2004 focal fosa and let me show you how to install it
0:59
The setup is pretty straightforward, just open up the terminal and update the repos because
1:05
flat pack application is already available in the official repo. After updating the repos in the system, simply use the installation command to install the
1:17
flat pack installing the flat pack in the system we need to add the flatpack
1:32
repo registry so that we can install flatpack applications in the distribution
1:38
For that, just simply execute this command. You will find all these commands in the description below, so do not worry about these
1:48
This will ask for the password, simply type in. So flat pack setup has been done
1:54
Now flat pack applications can be installed from the command line and from the graphical user interface
1:59
But in order to install from the graphical user interface, we have to install Gnome Software
2:04
plugin for the flat pack. For that, simply execute this command to install it
2:22
has been installed in the system but here is a catch since the Ubuntu 2004 it
2:27
comes with Ubuntu's customized SNAP software center which is a fork of Gnome
2:33
software center it basically prioritized the snap applications over the regular Tabian applications for the Ubuntu so you won't be able to use that software
2:42
center to install flat pack so you have to install the GNOM software center the
2:47
original one for that you can check out this video this will guide you how to install the Grom software center on Ubuntu After installing this software center you will get two icons something similar to this
3:03
so here you can see this is the Chrome software center and this one is the Ubuntu software center
3:09
so you won't be able to use this software center to install the flat pack application graphically
3:15
but you will be able to use this one so after the install the software center
3:19
you need to restart your system now let's go to the flatpack software
3:27
center to install the application here you can search for any particular
3:37
application that you want to install for the demonstration I'm going to use the
3:41
Spotify you can install the application from this button here this will simply
3:45
download a flat pack file and using that file you will be able to install this
3:49
Spotify but here I'm going to use the command line so this is the command to
3:55
install these Spotify on Linux so simply copy the command open the terminal
4:00
paste the command run it this will ask for your permission simply press
4:07
enter again the Spotify application has been installed in the spotify application has been installed in the system we can use this command to run the app or you can simply search it in the menu
4:28
Click on it and this will start the Spotify
4:44
Similarly, we can also use the software center to install flat pack applications
4:52
So here is the software center. This is Groom Software Center. Let me search for BLC here
4:58
You can see I'm getting two results for BLC, one, the first one and the last one here
5:04
So let me just click on this one. So this is for Ubuntu and it's from the SNAP store
5:10
So we do not want to install the SNAP application, we want to install the flat pad one
5:14
So the second one is for Flatpack and it gives you two options to install BLC from one
5:19
is the Rugglow. Devian file and another one is Flatpack. So we will select the Flatpack, it's already selected here
5:26
Click on the install button and this will install the BLC from the Flatpack repository into
5:31
the system. So that is the guide on how to install and set up Flatpack on Ubuntu
